Maintenance Technician | Dow Corning Corporation | Mount Meigs, AL
Dow Corning is looking to for qualified candidates to fill the role as
Maintenance Technician at it's Mt. Meigs, AL facility. Dow Corning
Alabama, based in Montgomery, Ala., is one of the largest producers of
silicon metal in the U.S. Formerly known as Simcala, Dow Corning
purchased the plant in 2003. It was renamed in October 2010. The plant
employs approximately 200 people who manufacture high-grade silicon
metal that is used at multiple sites to produce Dow Corning
silicon-based products. Dow Corning Alabama is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Dow Corning.
A Maintenance Technician performs routine to complex maintenance
functions for the furnace production, raw material or mobile equipment
environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete work orders as assigned following safe work procedures.
- Assemble and install equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram
rails, using hand tools and power tools.
- Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, handtools, squares,
rules, and micrometers.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical assemblies
associated with the furnace production environment and raw material
environment.
- Communicate to supervisor when necessary of any major maintenance
issues.
- Operate and test machinery, equipment and assemblies and perform
repairs.
- Oil, lubricate and install parts of mobile equipment and other
mechanical devices.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance and troubleshooting
functions.
- Perform basic welding functions based on experience level.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Must have strong knowledge of assemblies, motor repair and mechanical
devices.
- Must be in good physical condition and have the ability to walk,
climb, stand, bend, lift, and reach in a variety of situations. Must be
able to work at heights.
- Must be available to work rotating or weekend shifts as needed.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must have basic computer knowledge and skills.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance in an industrial
environment.
- Industrial Maintenance degree is desirable.
Additional Information:
This position requires working in an intense heat environment and
working around three electrical arc furnaces. Please view the Dow
